On a happier note, the CBC folks seemed to be really touched by our baked good this week.
Sure, we are sad and frustrated, but we remain vigilant and will continue to bring CBC-logo-decorated treats to the locked-out workers.
Note to picket line: this cookie may contain traces of pent-up anger (at management, not you), incredulity (who the hell responded to that G&M poll?) and love (ok, that's for you).
Let's hope this thing ends soon, but in the meantime, make some cookies—it'll raise your spirits in these sad times. We'll be back next week.
P.S. We just got a little rocked by the spam this afternoon, so we're trying out this word verification contraption on the comments. If it's too big of a hassle though, we'll go back to deleting the junk as it comes in. Sorry for any inconvenience.
Lovely cookie, A very similar looking cookie with a red lockout logo and some gum drops was delivered to the Winnipeg crew this am. The concrete is getting hard but they are optimistic that they are atleast building strong calves.
I think the CBC should be shut down and the money given to Medicare. Think off all the waiting lists that could be shortened with an extra $1 billion dollars a year. The average nurse's salary was $51,800 (http://tinyurl.com/clbbf). That would give Canada approximately 19,300 more nurse for Medicare.
If you had to choose between the CBC and private medical system or no CBC and Medicare what would you do? Our current system is unconstitutional according to the charter of rights. The government has to use it's scarce resources wisely.
Well at least you guys now have FOXNEWS...
Well, Anonymous, I can see what you're trying to do here. The point is taken that you don't find the CBC relevant to your life. Obviously you don't watch CFL games, you don't know who Don Cherry is, you'd never heard of Adrienne Clarkson before she was Governor General, and you don't find Kids in the Hall or Rick Mercer funny. Never mind those obscure personalities like Peter Gzowski or Alan Maitland who obviously did nothing for Canadian culture. Well, if that's the case, that's fine. For you.
But recognize that the CBC is not irrelevant for many others. It is relevant and even essential to the lives of thousands of Canadians. It brings us joy, information, culture, laughter, and reporting that is not driven by profit or advertisers. This is important to me, the people who contribute to this site, and many, many others.
So your point is taken. You don't need the CBC. That's fine.
But we do.
hells yeah we do! the point is SO not programming the cbc OUT of my life! it's getting the fuck plugged back IN! so gimme back my CBC! seriously, it's not neuroscience...
I'm one of the locked-out workers in Ottawa. I caught the remains of your lovely watermelon (at least, I think it was your watermelon. It was a very rainy day, but with just a few slices remaining there wasn't much left of the CBC logo). And people on the line are still talking about the cupcakes!
Thank you so much for your support. It is really, really appreciated.
I see you've all been writing to Rabinovitch, Frulla, etc., which is fabulous. Have you considered writing letters to the editor as well? It's important to keep this story active in the news cycle, and letters from the younger demographic just might do it. If you'd like some advice on writing letters that are more likely to be published, send an e-mail to lockedoutlive-at-gmail-dot-com and I will send you some tips!

15 years ago if a politician said anything like this it would have been political suicide. What has changed?
Hey all, did you see the cookie photo featured on cbcunplugged?
You guys rock :) Keep those cupcakes comin'!!
Why do we have to chose between health care and CBC? What about sell-out free trade deals, what about tax cuts to corporations, what about anything else on the planet that Canada spends money on?
I sympathize with the fact that you have to spend a long time waiting in the hospital, whether it's for a stitch or a new hip, but really, who decided that in order to have a good healthcare system we have to get rid of the CBC?
We need to get our priorities straight as a nation - protecting ALL the things which make this a good place to live. Your notion that the CBC is the only available sacrifice is flawed.
